Last week we finished up our data unit. Text and assignment were graded and given back and will be posted in grade book in the next few days, before the 15th.

We are working on the last geometry outcome over the next week. There will be no more math test for the year.

Today we finished up Friday's lesson on problem solving. We focused on creating the equation first, then solving it. Today students worked on an assignment that was handed out last week. It will be due tomorrow but most students have it finished because we have been working on it for a week.

Last week quizzes on adding and subtracting fractions were given back. Show them to the parents. Today in class we started a new unit on Equations. Today we discussed Equations and Expressions. Over the past few days, we worked on Addition of Fractions using symbols. We looked at adding fractions with like denominators and unlike denominators. We discussed rewriting each fraction as an equivalent fraction with the same denominator. The notes are posted below. Practice problems have been given out in class. Last week we started the Operations of Fractions unit. In this unit, students will learn to add and subtract fractions. During the past several classes, students have worked on using fraction circles and fraction strips to add fractions. Today we will practice adding using fraction strips.

*Note that majority of teacher taught lessons won't be able to be captured using the smartboard. There will be a lot of hands on maniupulatives and problem solving this unit.

We did two kahoot reviews covering all the info needed for the test. You can look them up home home. They are titled Circles Review Part 1 and Part 2. We also did another ISN entry. Tomorrow for your test, you will need your ISN, a pencil, a protractor and a calculator that is not a phone,(which will be provided)

The last two days we have been working on area of parallelograms and triangles. We discovered the area of a parallelogram is A=base x height and the area of a triangle is A=base x height divided by 2. Here are the notes from class. Here are the practice questions.

Over the past week we have have been working on the circles unit. Our first lesson involved determining the relationship between diameter and radius. We discovered that r=1/2d and d=2r.

Yesterday we moved on to circumference and discovered that the circumference, aka perimeter, is approximately three times larger than the diameter. We also discovered that when you divided circumference by diameter, we also get 3.14159.. This is a special irrational number called Pi.

We also came up with two a formula to find circumference. C=Pi x D.

Today we began practicing problems using these new concepts we have learned thus far. Click here for the problems. Finish up to number 8 at home.
