We have been working on Ecosystems- Abiotic and Biotic factors. Keep organized.
Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016
Today in class we will finish the lab write up together. Students will be asked to submit the report at the end of class. If we work on it together, there is no reason it can't be handed in on time, unless you are absent of course.
Next Unit on Ecosystems start tomorrow. Students can empty their science binders and throw out anything related to heat, unless it is for an overdue assignment.
Monday, February 29th, 2016
Today was the big heat science test. I hope everyone did well! I will be correcting them and will try to have them back before the week ends. On Friday we did a lab titled absorb that energy. We will be working on it in the next class and then it will be due on Thursday. Our next Unit on Ecosystems start tomorrow! Exciting times!
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016
Here is the study guide for the test.
Monday, February 22nd, 2016
We are getting ready to prepare for a Unit test on Heat. This will include "Chapter 5" and "Chapter 6" booklets on Particle Theory of Matter and Heat Transfer. An outline for the test will be given tomorrow, on Tuesday. Test is Monday, February 29th. Study hard! Here are the notes for both booklets. PTM and Heat Transfer.
Tuesday, February 16th, 2015
We have been discussing heat transfer. Students are currently completing a Picture assignment on conduction, convection and radiation. It will be due Friday, Feb 20th.
Wednesday, Jan 27th, 2016 (oops, I have been writing 2015 all this month )
We spent the last few classes completing a lab titled The Plateau Problem. Handouts for the reports were given. Here is an extra copy if you lost yours. Student conducted an experiment in class and recorded the results. Lab reports are due Friday. See Mrs B if you have any questions.
Thursday, Jan 21th, 2015
Today we worked on a webquest for Changing States of Matter.

3 states of matter assignment due Tuesday
Tuesday, Jan 12th, 2015
Over the past several classes we have been looking at Solids, Liquids and Gases. These are the three states of matter. Now students are working on a science assignment on comparing Solids, Liquids and Gases in terms of shape, volume, particle arrangement, space between particles and particle attractive forces. Assignment outlines given out in class. Due Friday.

We continued talking about Temperature and Kinetic Energy today. We looked at the Design Challenge Part 3 and completed a detect the connect activity. See Mrs. Benteau for a copy if you missed class.
Monday Jan 4th, 2015
Test and assignments were graded and given back. Today we began looking at Temperature and Kinetic Energy.
Science test was graded and given back. Note there are two outcomes assessed. The first outcome was a much smaller percentage of the test than the second outcome, so the second outcome is a more realistic indicator on how well you did on the test. Science test is almost marked, but I won't get to finish them before the break. Marks will be posted into grade book over the weekend.
Wednesday, December 16th, 2015
We began the second note booklet on particle theory of matter! Here is the note booklet that we will be filling in throughout the unit. Today we talked about the 5 points of the PTM.
Tuesday, December 15th, 2015
Science test today!
Monday, December 12th, 2015
Today I gave a class to review/study/complete assignments. We went over the study guide and what students were expected to know for tomorrows quiz. See Review guide on from Thursdays class for test outline. If students are missing notes, see Notes from Fridays class.
*Temperature measuring instrument assignment is now Late! You've have 2 1/2 classes to work on it. Get it in ASAP!
*Quiz tomorrow

Unit 2 : Heat
Wednesday, December 8th, 2015
Today we completed our 1st booklet of notes. Then we were working on questions on page 81 # 1,2, and 3. Finish for homework. Click here for the questions and answers.
Monday, December 7th, 2015
We continued filling in our 1st note booklet. See the following slide show here if you are missing any notes in your booklet. The link the the booklet is listed below, under Thursday, November 26th.

Lab write ups PASTDUE. Get them into Mrs. B as soon as possible. We began looking at various instruments used for measuring temperature this week. We have been copy notes into our "1st note booklet". Here are the notes. We will continue work on the instruments next week. Remember, we will have a test before the break!
We also completed Design Challenge Part 2 and discussed how various materials heat and expand and cool and contract at different rates. Check out these notes.
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015
We continued work on our Heating and Cooling Demo. The brief write up is due next class. Here is the questions and layout.
Tuesday, December 1st, 2015
Today the first booklet of notes was handed out. See Mrs Benteau for a copy, or below for the pdf. We completed this first page, and began looking at our first science demonstration on heating and cooling. Page 78 and 79 in your textbook.
Monday, November 30th, 2015
We completed our "Design Challenge" Part 1 today. Page 122- Choose one of the three options, talk about the goal temperature for our design, and some basic introductory design elements of your object. Remember, this design will be ongoing through the entire unit. See Mrs. Benteau if you missed class or have any questions.

This week we clued up some safety symbols review with an assignment and a quiz and started a new Unit on Heat!
We started with a Identifying Heat Activity. The answers to this activity can be found here.
Here are SMART notes from the first class of the unit.
Students will be given our three booklets to record their notes for this unit. Here is the first booklet. The next two will come later in the unit.
